Map Legend

The residents of Tacoma began to enjoy Point Defiance in 1888 when the United States Congress finally permitted public use of its military reservation. It was deeded to the City of Tacoma in 1905 as a park and in 1907 construction and operation of a pavilion, aquarium, heated saltwater baths, and other attractions began. Today, Point Defiance serves as a regional park and the zoo, aquarium, Owen Beach, Five Mile Drive, Fort Nisqually, Boathouse Marina and the gardens are just a few of the long list of opportunities offered for public enjoyment.
