Most of DeLong Park was purchased with funds from Pierce County Conservation Futures to preserve the pristine environment around the lake, one of last remaining functioning wetlands in Tacoma and home to many bird species. Metro Parks is currently working with the Central Neighborhood Council to restore everything within the wetland buffer to natural condition, enhance the trails and add interpretive signage.
